Compare the same amount credited against the complete charge in your own billing currency. An attractive exchange-rate number alone is not a complete comparison.
This worksheet concerns payment conversion at checkout. The existing budget guide explains item, service, freight and import costs; those charges are not listed again here.
Set one target before comparing payment screens
Write down the exact amount you need credited and the currency in which that balance is recorded. Compare methods that deliver that same result. A smaller card charge is not a saving if it also leaves you with a smaller usable balance. Check the available methods inside your own account rather than following an old screenshot.
Separate the balance credit from the payment request and your eventual bank charge. These can be shown in different currencies. Keep the currency code beside every amount; a dollar symbol alone may be ambiguous. Do not add a top-up fee twice if the payment total already includes it.
| Record | Option A | Option B |
|---|---|---|
| Usable amount credited | Same target and currency | Same target and currency |
| Payment request | Amount, currency and included fees | Amount, currency and included fees |
| Conversion provider | Shown provider or issuer | Shown provider or issuer |
| Final billing cost | Confirmed amount, or mark unknown | Confirmed amount, or mark unknown |
Read the choice actually offered to your card
PayPal’s US help explains that eligible card payments may offer PayPal conversion or card-issuer conversion. It also says the choice may not appear for a particular card, and that the issuer’s exact converted amount may only be known later. This describes PayPal’s process; it does not confirm which methods CSSBuy currently offers your account.
Visa describes dynamic currency conversion as a merchant or ATM offering conversion into the cardholder’s currency, with the rate and additional charges shown. Do not label every foreign-currency payment as DCC. First establish who is converting the payment, then check your issuer’s applicable terms for that transaction.

Compare a complete amount and keep the result
As a purely hypothetical example, two methods both credit 500 CNY. One has a confirmed total card cost of USD 72; the other has a confirmed total of USD 74. The first costs USD 2 less for that particular credit. These invented amounts are arithmetic illustrations, not exchange rates, fee quotes or payment recommendations.
If one side still has an unknown issuer fee or conversion amount, label the comparison provisional. Ask the provider for the missing term before deciding whether the convenience or uncertainty is acceptable. Never conclude that one conversion provider is always cheaper from a single payment.
Save the payment summary and later reconcile it with the posted bank transaction and credited balance. Use the correct transaction reference privately if something differs. Avoid making an unnecessary purchase just to test a rate, and keep card numbers and account screenshots out of public comparison posts.
